US gossip site says it’s “shocking” that the singer didn’t have a prenup, showing the couple was caught off guard by the 2-year marriage breakup
The American singer, songwriter, actress, model, dancer, producer, designer, choreographer, and businesswoman Jennifer Lopez has filed for divorce from her fellow American, also an actor, director, writer, and producer Ben Affleck, as reported by the TMZ (Thirty-mile zone) – an entertainment website in the United States, specializing in celebrities and gossip.
According to the text, on Tuesday (8/20), J Lo submitted the documentation alone and without a lawyer to the Higher Court of Los Angeles.
The couple had been together since July 16, 2022, when Lopez and Affleck got married in Las Vegas.
There is no prenuptial agreement – a contract that the bride and groom sign before the wedding to establish the property regime to be adopted during the union and to foresee other rules and provisions that will be applied to them after the marriage, as reported by the news channel.
According to the website, this is “shocking” as it would mean that any gain or profit the couple obtained during their nearly 2 years of marriage would be common property.
The site states that, being J Lo‘s fourth marriage and Ben‘s second, a prenuptial agreement would be more than obvious. However, the absence of this treaty suggests that they envisioned their union to be “forever.”
In the divorce documentation, Jennifer waived spousal support and is asking the judge to also deny it to Ben. Since they did not have children together, there are no custody issues.
According to TMZ, they put the house they live in Beverly Hills up for sale, Ben bought a house in Brentwood, and J Lo is looking for a new home.
The actor duo had been trying to reach an agreement for months and negotiations continue, but they are becoming increasingly heated, to the point where sometimes they don’t want to speak to each other, as reported by the web page.
